How time zones are handled in Howspace

This article describes how the platform handles date & time formats and time zones.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Taking different time zones into account can be quite tricky. Howspace tries to make it as easy to you as possible.

Date & time format

This is set in workspace settings (admin -> workspace manager -> settings -> language, date, and time). All participants will see dates and times in that workspace in the selected format.

How time zones are handled

There are a few places where you might set a specific date & time in a workspace:

In each of these situations, when you set a time, it will be shown to each participant according to their time zone. In situations where the time isn't shown to participants but an action is scheduled, it will happen at the same time for all participants. For example, if I now schedule a page to become visible at 12pm EEST, participants in the UTC time zone will see it at 9am local time.

In the case of the Booking widget, where you might set a confirmation email to be sent to participants, the calendar event in the email adjusts the time according to the time zone the participant is in.

In other words, Howspace automatically converts times to each participant based on their time zone.
